RF transistor delivers 1.6kW across 88-108MHz
The device, called BLF189XRA, can deliver 1,600W CW (continuous wave transmission) from a standard 50V power rail and can operate at >82% power efficiency.
“Being capable of delivering such power levels from a single SOT539 package reduces the number of RF power transistors required overall,” according to the Nijmegen firm. “BLF189XRA is an extremely rugged device that can withstand a VSWR of 65:1, conditions which might be encountered in a harsh operating environment or during maintenance routines.”
Ampleon was spun out of NXP in 2015. It has more than 1,300 employees worldwide, and makes semiconductors for mobile broadband infrastructure, radio broadcasting, TV broadcasting, CO2 lasers, plasma, MRI, particle accelerators, radar, air-traffic control, non-cellular communications, RF cooking, RF defrosting, RF heating and plasma lighting.
